Bargaining Update #1 - Preparations continue for Local 500/City of Winnipeg Negotiations

January 28, 2021 at 12:29 PM

The Local’s bargaining committee is continuing its preparations for upcoming negotiations with the City of Winnipeg. The current collective agreement between Local 500 and the City of Winnipeg expires on February 28, 2021.

Member survey results reviewed

In October 2020, the Local launched an online bargaining survey to get your input on the priorities important to you. Thank you to the members who submitted their recommendations for new and/or changes to existing articles in the collective agreement. This information will form part of the union’s proposal package at the bargaining table. The union’s proposals are determined through input from the members, from staff and by paying close attention to other settlements in Manitoba and across the country.

When will bargaining begin?

The union’s bargaining committee is in full preparation mode and meeting weekly. We will be giving notice of our intent to commence negotiations at the end of January. The notice period is outlined in the collective agreement.

At this time, we have not confirmed dates to begin negotiations with the employer but will keep you posted once we have an agreed to timeline.

How to stay informed during bargaining

We’re committed to keeping you informed. Once bargaining begins, we’ll be issuing regular communications to keep you up to date. During this important time, please make sure the union has your current home email address.

Bargaining bulletins will also be posted on the Local 500 website. If you don’t have access to a computer, you can also stay informed by watching your workplace bulletin board for further updates.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us at 204-942-1001 or email: union@cupe500.mb.ca.

Thank you for your support.
