Bargaining Update #43- Tentative Agreement Accepted

October 25, 2022 at 6:33 PM

Today, CUPE Local 500 members have voted to accept the tentative agreement with the City of Winnipeg. Acceptance was 75%.

The tentative agreement reached on October 11, averted strike action that was set to begin on October 12.

CUPE 500 President Gord Delbridge says that the union’s bargaining committee was extremely committed to reaching a fair deal to bring forward to the membership.

“I would like to commend our bargaining committee for their hard work during this very long and tough round of bargaining, as well as our strike committee” said Delbridge. “I would also like to thank our members for staying strong and united throughout the process. This agreement would not have been possible without the strike mandate from our members and their ongoing support.”

The new agreement provides for wage increases in each year of the contract including retroactive pay, a signing bonus, increases to shift premiums, tool and boot allowance. It also includes employment security as well as $1.4 million in special wage adjustments for selected classifications.

The tentative agreement must now be ratified by City Council.
