CUPE 500 STATEMENT ON VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS AT THE CITY OF WINNIPEG

December 21, 2021 at 2:00 PM

On December 20, the City of Winnipeg announced it is expanding its COVID-19 vaccine requirement for all City employees to be fully vaccinated by February 22, 2022.

CUPE 500 is reviewing the employers’ policy and seeking an external legal opinion to ensure our members’ rights are protected under the collective agreement.

As we have maintained throughout the pandemic, our priority remains to ensure the health and safety of our members while protecting their rights in the workplace.

CUPE has always strongly encouraged everyone who is able, to get vaccinated. Vaccination programs, alongside other measures, are important tools to help keep our workplaces and communities safe.

CUPE is disappointed by the City’s lack of consultation and proper notification to the release of the expanded vaccine requirement policy.

CUPE has been working throughout the entire COVID-19 situation to support our members and we will continue to do so as needed, and appropriate on an individual case-by-case basis.

We recognize these are stressful and unprecedented
times for all of us. Together we will get through this.
