CUPE Local 500/City of Winnipeg – Bargaining Update #25

August 20, 2022 at 7:27 PM

We are writing to provide you with a quick update on contract negotiations between Local 500 and the City of Winnipeg.

You may recall that our previous update indicated that we had no further meetings scheduled until the City’s bargaining committee was able to seek a new wage mandate from the Executive Policy Committee (EPC) of Council.

Your bargaining committee is able to confirm that conciliation talks will continue on August 23, 24 & 25.  We are advised that the employer will have a revised wage package to present.

Our main goal is to conclude a fair collective agreement without a labour disruption, and we remain focused on achieving this goal.

However, as we have said previously, while we are hoping for the best, we must also continue to be fully prepared for the possibility of job action in the near future.

As always, we will let you know of any new developments and provide you with additional information as it becomes available – stay tuned.

Strike preparations continue

The Local 500 Strike Committee has been busy with strike preparations.  They are working hard to make sure that everything possible is being done to assist our members should the union initiate job action.

If you signed up to be a picket captain, please watch your email for upcoming training dates.

Again, we remain optimistic that through the conciliation process, we can achieve a collective agreement and avoid strike action.
