CUPE Local 500/City of Winnipeg Negotiations Update - Bulletin #11

May 24, 2017 at 11:15 AM

Negotiations between CUPE Local 500 and the City of Winnipeg continued on Tuesday, May 23, 2017.

In our last communication to you, we indicated that the city would be presenting the union with a final offer of settlement (meaning they were not prepared to negotiate any further). However, we can report that instead, the City tabled a proposed offer of settlement to the union, and your bargaining committee has responded to that proposal with a counter offer.

We believe that the Union’s response represents a fair and reasonable offer of settlement that would meet the priorities of our members.

At this time, we are waiting for a response from the employer to our offer.  We have been advised that the City will be presenting another offer this afternoon (May 24).  This means that your bargaining committee will need an opportunity to review the city’s package to decide whether it is a fair and reasonable offer that we can recommend to the membership.

Please stay tuned as we continue to negotiate towards a contract that is fair for all Local 500 members.  We will be updating you as more information becomes available.

We appreciate your continued patience and support during the negotiation process.

In solidarity,

Your Negotiating Committee
