As we come to the end of another unprecedented year, I want to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to each and every Local 500 member for your membership and support.

It has been a challenging year for all to say the least. Whether you have remained working on the frontlines or have been working from home, thank you for your continued hard work, adaptability and solidarity during the ongoing pandemic.

All of you have been there to support our neighbours and serve our community when they needed it most. Thank you!

Despite these turbulent times, our Local has continued to fight hard to defend the rights of our members and ensure your health and safety remains a priority. I want to extend my thanks and appreciation to our leaders, activists, National servicing staff and CUPE specialist staff for their continued work and dedication to making sure our members have access to the important services they need.

Looking ahead to 2022, in addition to the day-to-day labour relations work, we will continue to focus on contract negotiations with the City of Winnipeg, in Health Care and with our affiliate employers. There will also be workplace challenges to confront, and other emerging issues that we will need to take on together.

In addition to the above, the Municipal and School Boards Election will take place on October 26, 2022. As Local 500 members, you know first hand how much our daily lives are impacted by the decisions made by our civic government. That’s why it’s important to elect progressive candidates who have a strong commitment to public services and who support the workers who deliver them. More information and political action updates will follow in the months ahead.

Finally, to ensure you are kept informed about all Local 500 issues, I would encourage all members to sign up to receive email updates. This is one of the ways we are able to share important news and information as soon as it becomes available. You will also find updates on workplace bulletin boards and our website.

In closing, I want to remind all Local 500 members to remain vigilant in the coming weeks and months while we continue to navigate the evolving challenges and uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please get in touch with us.

I would like to wish you all the best this holiday season and share your hopes for a brighter New Year.

Take care and stay safe.

In solidarity,

Gord Delbridge
President
