Les Butterworth Scholarship

Les Butterworth Scholarship and Bursary Program

About the Les Butterworth Scholarship Fund

The scholarship and bursary awards competition is offered annually and is open to CUPE Local 500 members and their families.  The applications are available in May.

The program, sponsored by CUPE Local 500, helps union members and their families defray the cost of higher education.

The Scholarship fund was established in memory of Les Butterworth, a past education representative for CUPE. Les dedicated his life to making this a better world for working people.

Eligibility:

The competition is open to Local 500 members in good standing and their families (family is defined as spouse, children, grandchildren, siblings, and children in-law.  Also eligible are families of disabled, retired or deceased members who were members in good standing at the time of their disability, retirement or death).

The awards are available for use in an accredited post-secondary school, college or university within Manitoba. (Awards can only be used at Canadian schools outside Manitoba when the course of studies is not offered in Manitoba).

To be eligible for an award, applicants must elect a full year’s study. Applicants who have completed one semester or more at a post-secondary school, college or university, may also apply.

Note: Previous award winners are not eligible, but previous applicants may re-apply.

Method of selection:

A selection committee of three prominent Winnipeg citizens will review the applications and other information provided.

Closing date:

Scholarship and Bursary applications must be returned by Monday, June 24, 2024 and sent to:
