Statement from CUPE 500 on the Passing of Councillor Jason Schreyer
It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we extend our condolences on the sudden and tragic passing of City Councillor Jason Schreyer.
Jason was more than a public servant — he was a steadfast ally of working people and a tireless advocate for fairness, dignity, and labour rights in our city. His unwavering support for public services and for the workers who deliver them will never be forgotten.
Throughout his time on council, Jason stood firmly with our union and with everyone who believes that a strong city is built on the foundation of good jobs, respect for workers, and a deep commitment to social justice. He listened, he cared, and he acted — always with integrity and compassion.
Jason was also a lover of language, music, and people. He was a devoted husband, father, son, and friend. His absence will be deeply felt across our city and beyond.
Our thoughts are with Jason’s wife Sarah, their children, and all his family, friends, and colleagues during this profoundly difficult time. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the causes he so passionately championed.
In solidarity,
Gord Delbridge
President
