After 14 years of a municipal property tax freeze, it’s no wonder that our aging infrastructure is literally bursting at the seams. In addition to starving our infrastructure from much needed repairs for over a decade, council’s decision to reduce the city’s workforce by millions of dollars in Vacancy Management has forced city crews to operate as skeleton teams making it nearly impossible to provide the services Winnipeggers expect from their tax dollars.
The City was quoted in saying that they will not be responsible for damage caused by water-main breaks unless it was caused by negligence from city employees. While city crews are out there doing their best with the little they are given, I’m sure we can all agree that any negligence in this matter should be placed squarely at City Hall.
