The Les Butterworth Scholarship and Bursary Program is an annual event sponsored by CUPE Local 500. The fund helps union members and their families defray the cost of higher education.
This year, one scholarship of $1,250 and three bursaries of $750 were awarded at a dinner held on October 8th at the RBC Winnipeg Convention Centre.
Scholarship Winner
The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic achievement and went to Luke Boguski. Luke's father Darrell is a Local 500 member working at the Transcona Library in the Community Services Department. Luke is enrolled in the Bachelor of Engineering - Aerospace Structures at Carleton University.
Bursary Winners
The bursaries are awarded on the basis of good academic standing with consideration of financial need. Here are the bursary award winners for 2015:
Michelle Friesen is enrolled in the Faculty of Science at the University of Winnipeg. Her father Scott is a Local 500 member working at the RBC Convention Centre.
Atley Durette is enrolled in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Manitoba. He is a Local 500 member working in the Golf Services Division of the Planning, Property and Development Department.
Madison Zienkiewicz is enrolled in the Faculty of Arts - Human Rights and Conflict Resolution at the University of Winnipeg. She is a Local 500 member working at the City of Winnipeg in the Recreation Services Division.
