2022 Scholarship and Bursary Winners announced

The Les Butterworth Scholarship Fund, sponsored by Local 500, has awarded one Scholarship of $2,000 and three bursaries of $1,000 each. 

The scholarship and bursary program was created to honour Les Butterworth, a past education representative for CUPE.  Les dedicated his life to making this a better world for working people.

Since 1981, the Local has proudly awarded over $100,000 through 41 scholarships and 139 bursaries to Local 500 members and their families.

Our congratulations go out to the 2022 award winners.  They are:

Scholarship:

May Lin Howelko
is completing her first year in the Bachelor of Science program at the Canadian Mennonite University.  Her father Alan is a Local 500 member in the Community Services Department at the City of Winnipeg.


Bursaries:

Shane Evans is enrolled at the University of Manitoba in the Undergraduate studies University 1.  His mother Cherrie is a Local 500 member who works in the Employee Development Branch – Human Resource Services at the City of Winnipeg.

Angelo Herrera is enrolled at the Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology in the Electrical Application Program.  He is a Local 500 member who works in the Community Services Department at the City of Winnipeg.   

Jordan Wagner is enrolled in the Robson Hall School of Law at the University of Manitoba.  Jordan is a Local 500 member who works in the Community Services Department at the City of Winnipeg.
