April 28 is National Day of Mourning

April 28 is the National Day of Mourning, a time when workers, families, employers, unions and others come together to remember those who have lost their lives to work-related incidents or occupational diseases. Since 1978, sixteen Local 500 members have died due to a workplace accident or illness.
By remembering those who have been killed or injured, we remember why we must continue to fight for the health and safety of workers. We come together to mourn the dead and continue together to fight for the living.
All Local 500 members are encouraged to attend one of the events being held to help pay tribute to fallen and injured workers. Please remember to consult with your supervisor if you wish to attend one of the following ceremonies:

- City Hall Court Yard - 8:45 am – 9:45 am (Mayor’s Foyer if inclement weather)
Worksite Ceremonies:
- Public Works - 960 Thomas Avenue, 7:30 am
- Water and Waste - 552 Plinquet Street, 7:30 am
- Public Works/Water and Waste – 1155 Pacific Avenue, 10:30 am
