Bargaining Update #8 - CUPE Local 500/City of Winnipeg
July 16, 2021 at 8:40 PM
CUPE Local 500 and the City of Winnipeg have completed five more days of bargaining on July 6, 7, 8, 14 & 15.
While we didn’t make as much progress as we had expected during these sessions, we did advance closer to completing our discussions on non-monetary items.
One of the reasons why non-monetary items can take a lot of time to negotiate, is that the two parties must not only discuss many complex language issues, but every time we exchange counter proposals, even a slight change in words can have a significant impact on how the clause actually works. It is not unusual for proposals to go back and forth between the parties many times until a mutual agreement is made on the language.
Your bargaining committee wants to take the necessary time needed to negotiate a fair collective agreement for our members.
The two parties are in the process of scheduling the next bargaining session. We will keep you posted on any future meeting dates once they are confirmed.
