The Local 500 Social and Sports Committee's Bud, Spud and Steak fundraising event held on September 11, was a great success. The event combined with silent auction, 50/50 and other ticket draw sales, raised close to $1,400.
"Our scholarship funds are limited and the demand for support is increasing every year," said Mike Davidson, CUPE Local 500 President. "These fundraising events play a huge role in helping the Local offset the costs to provide additional awards to deserving students each year."
The CUPE Local 500 Les Butterworth Scholarship Fund has proudly provided scholarships and bursaries to young, bright and dedicated students for the past 29 years. These scholarships and bursaries have assisted in alleviating some of the financial stress associated with the cost of education thus allowing for dreams to be realized and doors to be open.
Our thanks go out to the committee, the auction prize donors and all the volunteers who helped make this event a huge success. And many thanks to all the people who came out to the event in support of the scholarship fund.
