This week, we are celebrating the important and essential work of our front-line health care support workers.
The Government of Manitoba has proclaimed the week of October 19 – 23, 2020 as “Healthcare Support Workers’ Week” to acknowledge their contribution and dedication to the health and well being of Manitobans.
The proclamation issued by the Minister of Health, Seniors and Active Living notes “the COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the value of health care support workers who have been on the front-line protecting our elders, patients, clients, and community during incredibly difficult circumstances.”
“Health care support workers are essential to our health care system," said Local 500 President Gord Delbridge. “In the midst of the most challenging public health crisis of our time, we salute their courage and commitment to our community.”
Local 500 proudly represents members at Riverview Health Centre and Winnipeg Regional Health Authority who provide a wide range of health care support services.
“While we won’t be able to gather in person this week to celebrate your work, I want to take this opportunity to thank each of you for your tireless work and dedicated efforts in serving our community day in and day out,” said Delbridge.
As we mark Health Care Support Workers’ Week, CUPE will continue to fight for increased funding for health care to ensure sufficient personal protective equipment, better working conditions, staffing and workloads.
