Today, Winnipeg City Council voted 14 -1 in favour of an external audit of the Winnipeg Police Headquarters construction project.  In November council voted against it, but the issue rose again in January when the Winnipeg Labour Council, CUPE Local 500 and the Canadian Taxpayers Federation held two separate joint press conferences calling for the audit.

“This is good news for the citizens of Winnipeg,” said Local 500 President Mike Davidson.  “It’s important that Winnipeggers have the full details surrounding the issue of cost overruns and what can be done to prevent this from happening again and again.”

Voting against the motion was Councillor Swandel.  Councillor Orlikow was absent from today’s meeting.
