City Council votes in favour of managed competition process for city-owned golf courses

July 18, 2012 at 2:57 AM

On July 18, Winnipeg City Council voted 10-6 in favour of using a process called "managed competition" to decide the future operation of it's golf courses.

This move was previously approved by the City's Alternate Services Delivery (ASD) Committee on July 6. The four golf courses affected include Kildonan, Harbour View, Crescent Drive and Windsor Park.

Under this type of model, the union and private businesses will compete to manage city-owned golf courses, but Local 500 President Mike Davidson has made it clear that unions do not bid on the work of their members.

The Local will update the membership as more information becomes available.
