City of Winnipeg Budget Process - 2014

December 06, 2013 at 10:18 AM

The City of Winnipeg’s 2014 Operating and Capital Budget process got underway this week. This budget has some major impacts on our members and public services in a number of areas.  Local 500 is particularly disturbed by the proposed mandatory unpaid leave (3.5 days), vacancy management allocation, cuts to social programs in Community Services and adequate funding for our museums.  It also appears that the city is heading towards more contracting out through an Alternate Service Delivery (ASD) review process.

At a meeting of the Standing Policy Committee on Protection and Community Services on December 5, Local 500 presented our views in opposition to the budget.  You can click here to view a copy of the Local’s presentation.

As always, Local 500 will continue to closely monitor the budget debate and make presentations as needed. As we have done many times in the past, we will fight any attempts to contract out our work, reduce staffing levels and cuts to programs and service s.  Winnipeggers deserve a budget that provides the necessary funding and resources to deliver the public services they value and depend on.

We will keep you updated as the budget process continues over the next couple of weeks.
