City's ASD committee votes in favour of managed competition process for city-owned golf courses

July 06, 2012 at 2:59 AM

On July 6, City Council's alternate service delivery (ASD) committee voted in favour of using an alternative service delivery model known as "modified managed competition" process to determine the future operations of Kildonan, Windsor, Crescent Drive and Harbourview golf courses.

"Local 500 has a proud history of working with management and politicians in the City to find creative ways to provide the services that we do,"said Local 500 President Mike Davidson. "But we feel compelled to point out that Unions do not bid on the work that their members do," he said.

Last fall, the city released an expression of interest to see if anyone wanted to purchase or take over the long-term leases of the Canoe Club, Crescent Drive, Harbour View, John Blumberg, Kildonan Park, Tuxedo or Windsor Park golf courses.

The recommendations will have to be approved by city council.

The Local will continue to update the membership as more information becomes available.
