CUPE Local 500 has once again launched a public awareness campaign to remind the larger community, that, as neighbours and friends, Winnipeg's public employees are integral to building strong and healthy communities.

Our radio and above print ad will give the public an opportunity to learn more about Winnipeg's public services and the women and men who provide them.

"Public services and infrastructure are the cornerstone of our economy and bedrock of our communities," said Local 500 President, Mike Davidson. "Day in and day out, our members provide front line, quality public services to the citizens of Winnipeg. But they are also generous with their time and support for many important charities and groups in our community," he said.

To pay recognition to the contributions that public service workers make in our communities, CUPE Locals across the country will mark June 23 as "Communities Day". The focus of this year's Communities Day will be celebrating CUPE members as community builders, public service workers and neighbours in our city.

"It's also a day to remind our elected officials about the need for renewed public investment in our public services and infrastructure," says Davidson. "Well-funded public infrastructure and services will ensure all residents can work, learn and thrive in our community today, and into the future."

Communities Day is an annual event in celebration of public services and the people who deliver them.
