CUPE 500 LAUNCHING NEXT PHASE OF "NO CUTS" CAMPAIGN
January 09, 2020 at 12:34 PM
In our continuing efforts to highlight the city's proposed massive budget cuts to programs, services and staffing, the Local is launching the next phase of our "No Cuts" campaign.
As part of the city's four-year budget process, civic departments have proposed reductions in sewer and water infrastructure maintenance, cuts to important Information Technology tools, contracting out of translation services, street lighting, and cuts to dozens of jobs. Proposals also includethe closure of public arenas, pools, recreation facilities, libraries, and recreation programming.
You can click here to view a list of the cuts and closures that are being considered by City Councillors.
Since our initial campaign launch, you may have heard our radio ad and noticed some of our billboard ads across the city. Our campaign team has also been busy our in the community sharing information and collecting signatures on petitions to support our actions. We'll be launching more billboard and social media ads over the next few weeks.
The Local has also set up a campaign website: YourWinnipeg.ca where you can take an active role in supporting the campaign.
