CUPE 500/City of Winnipeg Bargaining Update #34

October 07, 2022 at 7:47 PM

As you may have heard through the media, the City presented an offer to the bargaining committee late yesterday, October 6, 2022.

Your bargaining committee carefully reviewed the document and has provided the City with a counter offer.

We remain committed to reaching a fair deal through conciliation, and will continue to work over the Thanksgiving long weekend with cautious optimism that we will find resolve.

As we have said before, a strike is always a last resort in bargaining. We want to keep our members working without loss of pay and without loss of services to our city.

We know this has been a very stressful and difficult process for you and we greatly appreciate your continued support and solidarity.

We will keep you updated on any new developments over the coming days. Your bargaining committee remains hopeful that we will reach a tentative settlement and avoid job action. However, we are fully prepared in the event we reach our strike date.

Please note the following:

Strike pay banking information

This past week, members may have received an email from the CUPE 500 Strike Committee indicating that your banking information on the strike pay application was incorrect. This information needs to be accurate so that we can set up direct deposit for strike pay.

Please check the picket sign-up receipt you received via email after filling out your strike pay application to confirm that your banking information is correct. The banking information we require is a series of numbers that include your Transit Number (5 digits) Bank/Financial Institution Number (3 digits), and your Account Number (7 – 12 digits). See sample cheque below.cheque image sample.jpg

If the information is incorrect, it is important that you either:

  •  submit a new form with the correct information by clicking here.
  •  contact the Strike Committee at (204) 221-6531 or by email at cupe500strike@gmail.com
  •  visit us at 1500 Portage between 9:30AM and 3:30PM, Monday to Friday, for in-person assistance

The strike committee recognizes that some members are uncomfortable sharing this information. This information only allows CUPE to deposit strike pay. We will have no other access to your account. All banking information will be destroyed once a new collective agreement has been ratified.

Thank you for your cooperation.
