CUPE Local 500 Scholarship and Bursary Award Winners

The Les Butterworth Scholarship and Bursary Program is an annual event sponsored by CUPE Local 500.  The fund helps union members and their families defray the cost of higher education. 

This year, one scholarship of $1,500 and four bursaries of $800 were awarded at a dinner held on September 21 at the RBC Winnipeg Convention Centre. 

Scholarship Winner

The scholarship, which is awarded on the basis of academic achievement, went to Julia Greening.  Julia is enrolled in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Manitoba.  Her partner David is a Local 500 member in the Water and Wastewater Department.

Bursary Winners

The bursaries are awarded on the basis of good academic standing with consideration of financial need.

Here are the bursary award winners for 2017:

Nelly Castillo-Pilcol is enrolled in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Winnipeg. She is a Local 500 member working in the Community Development and Recreation Services Division of the Community Services Department.

Moneca Dunsford is enrolled in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Manitoba.  She is a Local 500 member working in the Water and Wastewater Department.

Alexandre Gilbert is enrolled in the Faculty of Science at the University of Winnipeg. He is a Local 500 member working in the Community Development and Recreation Services Division of the Community Services Department.

Chase Sveinson is enrolled in the Bachelor of Commerce at the Asper School of Business – University of Manitoba. He is a Local 500 member at the Insect Control Branch at the Public Works Department.
