CUPE Local 500/City of Winnipeg – Update #21 – A message from the Local 500 President

July 11, 2022 at 1:06 PM

Greetings:

As you are aware, we have called for a strike mandate vote and are asking for your support so that we can go back to the bargaining table and get the collective agreement you deserve.

A strike mandate does not mean there will be immediate job action, but it strengthens our bargaining committee’s ability to bargain for a fair deal.

I want you to know the decision to seek a strike mandate wasn’t taken lightly. We would have preferred to reach a settlement before going in this direction.

Right now, the major issue to reaching a deal with the City is their refusal to offer you a fair wage increase.

What they have tabled for you is unacceptable and completely out of touch with the soaring rate of inflation across Canada.

You deserve much better!

It is time we moved this process forward - and to do that, we need your backing.

Your bargaining committee is recommending that all members vote "YES" to a strike mandate on July 12.

Thank you for your ongoing patience and support.

In solidarity,

Gord Delbridge, President
