EPC amends budget but mandatory unpaid leaves, vacancy management and ASD cost-savings remain intact

December 16, 2013 at 11:13 AM

This past Friday, the city’s Executive Policy Committee (EPC) made a small number of amendments to the proposed City of Winnipeg Operating Budget.

In particular, the two community crisis response team worker positions were reinstated and Sherbrook Pool will be reopening.  A budget amendment redirects a total of $1.671 million towards the repairs.  However, it is not known where the remainder of the needed funding will come from.

“We have serious concerns about the millions of dollars in the so-called cost savings initiatives that still remain in the budget,” said Local 500 President, Mike Davidson.  “These reductions in staffing levels and service cuts will, without a doubt, compromise front line services being delivered to the citizens of Winnipeg.”

The Local has made presentations to city hall in opposition of the 2014 operating budget and will present its final brief to City Council on Tuesday, December 17. Following the meeting, we will be updating the membership on the results of the budget vote.

Please watch for further updates on this important matter.
