CUPE Local 500 > News/Media > News Archive > Health Care Bargaining Update: Retro Pay delay is unacceptable!

On August 27, 2015, a number of CUPE health care locals were informed by the WRHA that some of our members would not be receiving retro pay on time. These facilities include: Grace Hospital, Seven Oaks General Hospital, Concordia Hospital, and Riverview Health Centre.

This delay is in violation of the collective agreement which states that retro pay must be provided within 120 days on August 28th.

This is completely unacceptable.

CUPE is taking action

CUPE is currently working on our response to the WRHA, and we will be pursuing every avenue, including legal action, to ensure that CUPE members are treated with respect, and receive their retro pay as soon as possible, as well as any other redress we can achieve.

On August 28th, CUPE filed an Application to the Arbitrator, calling on the same arbitrator who ruled on our most recent round of negotiations to step in and enforce his ruling.

After having 120 days to process your retro, we feel this delay is completely unacceptable.

CUPE is also considering filing an Unfair Labour Practice complaint, and will pursue any other means necessary to seek fairness for members who are due their retro pay.

If necessary, CUPE is willing to take this issue to the Court of Queen’s Bench for enforcement.

We will post any updates at phcc.cupe.ca
