Honourary Life dinner returns after two-year absence

November 10, 2022 at 8:17 AM

CUPE Local 500 held it's annual Honourary Life dinner on Friday, November 4 after a two-year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event was held at the RBC Winnipeg Convention Centre and was attended by current honourary life members.

CUPE 500 recognizes honorary life members for their outstanding activism and dedication to the Local over an extended period of time. Persons who have distinguished themselves by meritorious service to the Local may also be awarded.

Life membership can be awarded when the person is within five years of retirement or after retirement or termination of their employment.

Since 1977, CUPE 500 has honoured 164 members for their outstanding contributions to the Local.

“Our Local has a very long and proud history of standing up for our members both inside the workplace and in the larger community,” said CUPE 500 President Gord Delbridge.  “This is as a result of a lot hard work by the rank and file leadership that built CUPE 500 into the strong, democratic Local that it is today. “

This year, the Local paid tribute to the following honoured members who we lost since 2019. You can click here to view the tribute page and words of remembrance as presented by Paul Moist, honourary life member, former CUPE National President and a past president of Local 500.
