Labor Day weekend is a time to celebrate and reflect on the exceptional contributions made to Canada by working people and their unions.
CUPE Local 500 marks this day by celebrating the work done by its members who deliver quality public services to their city and community, everyday.
"Every day in many ways, Local 500 members are on the front-lines doing the best work possible and adding value to their community on and off the job," said CUPE Local 500 President Mike Davidson. "The strength of CUPE is in our members and they are some of the greatest resources in all of Canada and no one should take that for granted."
Labour Day was officially recognized in 1894. It was created to pay tribute to the hard working women and men who built this country. Because of them, we have the right to a safe and healthy workplace, to employment insurance, to paid holidays and vacation, to public pensions, to living wages, to maternity and parental leave and other positive working conditions.
So this Labour Day, relax, reflect and have a safe and happy holiday!
