The rising cost of post-secondary education remains a challenge for many working families. To help make education more accessible, Local 500 sponsors an annual scholarship and bursary program for our members and their families.

The Local 500 scholarship and bursary fund was established in memory of Les Butterworth, a past education representative for CUPE. Les dedicated his life to making this a better world for working people.

This year, the Les Butterworth Scholarship and Bursary Program awarded one scholarship of $1,500 and three bursaries of $1,000. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic achievement and the bursaries are awarded for high marks and financial need.

“Being able to help our members and their families further their education is very important to our Local,” said CUPE 500 President Gord Delbridge. “I want to congratulate all of the recipients and wish them all the best in their studies.”
