Today, CUPE Local 500 members voted sixty-six per cent to accept the tentative agreement reached on June 13 with the City of Winnipeg.

“We are pleased our members ratified this agreement that was made possible because of the strength they showed during the negotiation process,” said Local 500 President Gord Delbridge. “In the end, we were able to push back against some significant concessions that would have hurt the quality of city services our members provide and Winnipeggers rely on.”

The previous collective agreement ended on December 24, 2016. The City and the Union began negotiations on February 6, 2017.  On June 7, the members voted 85% in favour of a strike mandate in response to the city’s offer of May 24.

“I would like to commend our negotiating committee for their hard work during this very tough round of bargaining,” said Delbridge. “I would also like to thank our members for their continued support and for the tremendous amount of food and monetary donations made today in support of those in need of our community."

The tentative agreement must now be ratified by City Council.  Please watch for further updates as more information becomes available.
