John Jamieson.jpgLocal 500 is sad to announce the passing of Honourary Life Member John Jamieson on February 8, 2022.

John worked for the former Hydro Department at the City of Winnipeg for 30 years before retiring in 2003.

During his years as a Local 500 member, John was a committed union activist who represented his members in many different capacities.  He held positions of Unit President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Recording Secretary, Trustee, and proudly served on numerous committees. John brought an incredibly strong and dedicated voice to his fellow members at Winnipeg Hydro in the fight for fairness and for healthy, safe workplaces.

John was inducted into the Local 500 Honourary Life membership in 1997.

His contributions to our union and our collective fight for a better world for all will never be forgotten.  He will be deeply missed.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, February 16 at 10:00 am at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway. Based on current provincial guidelines, the hall requires masks, proof of vaccination, and will admit 150 people. The service will be livestreamed, you may follow this link to view: https://youtu.be/Tg_02B_PuO4

For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Cornwell (Winnipeg) Branch.
