CUPE Local 500 > News/Media > News Archive > Local 500/City of Winnipeg Negotiations Update

The Union and the City have exchanged proposals in the negotiations of a new contract.  The union’s proposals were developed based on the membership priorities identified in the bargaining survey conducted in 2014.

On January 6, 2015, the Union’s Negotiating Committee met to review the City’s proposal package.   At this time, we can report that the City’s proposal package contains concessions that we have seen tabled in past rounds of negotiations. Concessions are requests by the employer to give up rights we previously fought for and gained in bargaining.

Your bargaining committee is committed to negotiating a fair and reasonable contract for its members.

Bargaining to commence in February

The two parties are in the process of scheduling dates to commence joint bargaining.  We anticipate that the Union and the City will be meeting in early February to begin talks towards a new contract.

Local 500 members who wish to view a copy of the Union’s proposed changes to the agreement, may drop by the Local 500 office at 702 – 275 Broadway.
