Vigils planned to remember missing and murdered women

October 04, 2012 at 9:23 AM

Today, October 4, is the seventh annual day of Sisters in Spirit vigils to honour the lives of the too many missing and murdered Aboriginal women and girls in Canada.

Events are planned across the province Thursday to give Manitobans the opportunity to remember Canadian women who are missing or murdered.

The Native Women’s Association of Canada first sponsored vigils that have now become a national tradition. Sisters in Spirit was launched seven years ago to recognize the hundreds of aboriginal women who have gone missing or been murdered in Canada.

The following event is taking place tonight in Winnipeg:

Sisters in Spirit candlelight vigil @ 7 p.m., at the fountain behind the Manitoba Legislature.
