Winnipeg Labour Council and Canadian Taxpayers Federation call for police headquarters audit

January 13, 2014 at 12:45 PM

Today, Dave Sauer of the Winnipeg Labour Council and Colin Craig of the Canadian Taxpayers DSCF1749.jpgFederation held a joint press conference to encourage Winnipeggers to lobby city councilors to reconsider a 2013 decision not to audit the project which has seen cost overruns in the amount $75 million dollars.

“We are putting our public policy differences aside to work together on an important issue - once that involves accountability at city hall,” said David Sauer, President of the Winnipeg Labour Council.  “There needs to be an independent review of what went wrong and how this can be prevented from happening again and again.”

Last year, council voted 9-7 against an audit and now both groups are urging the public to convince two more councilors to support a new motion for the audit.  The next meeting meeting of City Council takes place on Wednesday, January 29.
