On December 14, Winnipeg City Council approved a motion to bring bulky waste collection back in-house.

“This is a good victory for the Local and our members,” said Local 500 President Gord Delbridge.  “We view this as a positive step forward in brining other contracted out services back in-house which will mean better quality services and savings to the citizens of Winnipeg.”

The current contracts for bulky waste pick-up expire in 2017, and four other contracts for bin collection are set to expire in 2018 – 2023.

“We will continue to enter into discussions with the Winnipeg Public Service as these collection contracts come due to explore bringing them back into public hands as well,” added Delbridge.

The Local will continue to update the membership as more information becomes available.
